Opportunistic high cross-range resolution imaging using TOPSAR illuminations of Sentinel-1

چکیده
Burst mode SAR’s such as ScanSAR or TOPSAR can achieve wide swath coverage in a single pass of the satellite at the cost of degraded cross-range resolution. In the bistatic configuration using a SAR satellite as illuminator of opportunity and a ground-based stationary receiver close to the imaged area, this coarse cross-range resolution can be improved in some favourable geometries by exploiting the sidelobe emissions of the beams illuminating the adjacent sub-swaths. This paper compares the oustanding performance that can be achieved in ScanSAR and TOPSAR mode thanks to a bistatic geometry.

TerraSAR-X TOPSAR and ScanSAR comparison
TOPSAR is a recently proposed SAR mode for wide swath acquisition, which is intended to replace the conventional ScanSAR mode. TOPSAR will be used by the ESA Sentinel-1 SAR sensor in its main interferometric wide swath mode. TerraSAR-X has demonstrated the TOPSAR mode in space by acquiring and processing TOPSAR images for the first time. The paper reports the results of the image scalloping ana...

TOPSAR is a recently proposed SAR mode for wide swath acquisition, which is foreseen to be used by the ESA Sentinel-1 SAR sensor in its main interferometric wide swath mode. The Microwaves and Radar Institute of the German Aerospace Center is validating TOPSAR mode in space with TerraSAR-X data within the framework of an ESA commissioned project. Several TOPSAR images have been successfully com...

Introduction: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is a standard surgical technique to identify sentinel lymph node (SLN) for the staging of early breast cancer. Nowadays, two methods are used for the identification of SLN: blue dye method aiding visually and radioactive dye using gamma detector. A wide range of gamma probe systems with different design and performance are used in...
متن کاملScanSAR resolution enhancement in bistatic operation
The ScanSAR mode allows imaging of a swath much wider than range ambiguity limits would normally allow but at the cost of degraded cross-range resolution. This degraded cross-range resolution in monostatic configuration can be enhanced in the case of a bistatic configuration with a receiver close to the imaged area by exploiting the sidelobe emissions of the beams illuminating the adjacent subs...
متن کاملMultiscale Fusion of Insar Data for Hydrological Applications
Accurate determination of topography is required for a wide range of civilian and governmental applications. For example, modeling flood extent, flow velocity, and sediment transport associated with river networks requires bare-surface elevations with sub-meter height accuracy and spatial resolutions better than 10 meters. Strip-map interferometric synthetic aperture radar (INSAR) sensors have ...
